1.Guides to Shanghai & TDLI

Whether you are preparing for your first visit, arriving in Shanghai, or settling into daily life at TDLI, the guides below provide essential information to help you navigate the city, the campus, and institutional procedures.

2. Early visit as a project-based visiting student

Candidates holding a TDLI Pre-offer who need to come to Shanghai before formal enrollment may apply for a project-based visit visa (项目课题生) for short-term research (1 month–1 year). Conversion from a visit visa to a student visa follows SJTU and immigration procedures.

Early visitors must sign a tripartite Visit/Internship Agreement (Student — Supervisor — TDLI).

How

  1. Search theSupervisor Directoryto identify potentialsupervisors.
  2. Contact prospective supervisors by email. Provide: 1) English CV; 2) Personal statement and research/study plan
  3. If a faculty member agrees to supervise you, request aVisiting Student Program clarification. Download the templatehere.

Send the documents to the TDLI coordinator

  1. The Visiting Student Program clarification.
  2. A PDF scan of your passport bio page.
  3. Confirm the email address you are using now will be your sign-in email for the SJTU visiting program. Once entered into the SJTU nomination system, it cannot be changed.
  4. Send tozhao.yu@sjtu.edu.cnand keep your TDLI supervisor in the loop.

TDLI will nominate the student in the system once the above information is confirmed. After nomination, the system sends a sign-up email directly to the chosen contact. The student completes the online application, which is reviewed before admission.

After admission:Students receive an electronic admission notice and a visa application form (JW202/DQ Form). Use these documents to apply for a study visa for entry.
