ELIGIBILITY

The following are general requirements you should meet to applyforthe SJTU International Graduate Program.

Non-Chinese citizen.

Not registered in SJTU at the degree level aiming to apply for.

Good health both physically and mentally.

Outstanding academic performance and potential.

Bachelor degree or equivalent for master program applicants. The degree must be ready prior to the registration day.

Master degree or equivalent for doctoral program applicants. The degree must be ready prior to the registration day.

Demonstrated proficiency in Chinese and/or English, for details please refer toLanguage Requirement for SJTU International Graduate Programs.

HOW TO APPLY

Step 1: Complete the Online Application

Complete andsubmit an online application atStudy@SJTU(http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/,http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn)by the application deadline.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made using RMB or USD. You can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system.

DOCUMENTS TO PREPARE

Degree certificates: Must be the scanned file of your original certificates. Students who have not graduated by the time of application are required to provide an official letter fromtheircurrent university stating the expected graduation date.

Transcripts: Must be the scanned copy of your original transcripts.

Language proficiency certificate and score report.

A scanned copy of your passport.

Passport-size photo.

Personal statement and study plan.

Information of two recommenders, who should be associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles and know the candidate well enough to provide reliable evaluations.

Note: If your documents are not in English or Chinese, please have them translated into either English or Chinese by an authorized translation agency. After this please upload both the translated and original documents onto our application system.

TUITION AND HOUSING FEES

Tuition:

RMB 45,500/Year for Doctoral programs (Approx. USD 6,600/Year)

On-campus housing: RMB 50-160/Day (Approx. USD 8-25/Day)

SCHOLARSHIPS

Basically, for incoming international graduate students, there are two channels forscholarship application: through Shanghai Jiao Tong University or through ChineseEmbassies/Consulates in the home country. Applicants may choose only oneapplication channel. Replicated applications through more than one channel is notallowed.

How to Apply?

1.Apply for scholarships through SJTU

SJTU provides different types of scholarships to international graduate students asthe following:

When applying at http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/ applicants should choose “apply for scholarship through SJTU”and follow the steps online. Applicants should complete the scholarship application procedures in time according to the requirements of the university.

The earlier an applicant completes the application, the sooner he/she receives an offer of admission and scholarships if the review result from the university is positive. Applicants can check the scholarshipsresult through the application system.The formal offer of scholarships will be sent along with the formal admission letter.

2.Apply for scholarshipsthrough Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home country

Applicantsmay alsoapply to the Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home countryfor scholarship opportunities. The application schedule varies from country to country (usually from November to April).

Please consult the Chinese Embassy/Consulate about its application schedule, eligibility, requirements, procedures, documents, agency number, program category type and so on in advance.

Important Notes:

In general, scholarships duration cannot be extended.

For international students admitted in the special graduate programs withuniversityscholarships(Doctoral Program type III/Master Program typeⅡ/Master Program type III)inShanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, Antai College of Economics & Management and USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry,China-UK Low Carbon College,the scholarship willonly cover the university’s standard tuition of 28,900RMB/Year for master’s programs ), and students will have to pay the rest of the tuition of these programs.

Graduate students in SJTU can also apply for certain TA or RA positions on campus.

All scholarship recipients are obliged to participate in the annual scholarship review in April and/or May which will confirm their scholarship status in the next academic year.

4. Information on Insurance

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China, all international students who will stay in China for more than 6 months are required to purchase the Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for Foreigners Staying in China. The insurance is one of the required documents for on-site registration, and insurances issued by other agencies are not recognized.

EDUCATION

Objective

Doctoralstudents graduated fromSLSBshould be processed of steady theoretical basis of molecular biology, biochemistry and otherrelatedfields withpracticed experimental skills and fluentoralEnglish.Doctoralstudents should be able to design and finish scientific projects, and launch academic research independently.

EducationalSystem andCredits

For full-time doctor students, the study period is four years. The total credits should not be less than 16.

Qualification Examination

The qualificationexamination for doctoralstudentsshould be doneat the end of the thirdsemester, before dissertation launched. Asanecessaryprocedurefor thethesis proposal, itmust be done before the proposal.It includes both exams and interviews.

Thesis Proposal

After successfully passed the thesis proposal, students can do the thesis proposal. It should includethe scientific basis, purpose, contents of study, expected goals, research methods, conditions of projects,etc. Three to five experts in related fields arepresenttoassessthethesis proposal.

Annual Review for Doctoral Student

Afterthethesis proposal, there is an annual review for every student to examinetheir research progress.

Publication

Academic papers publishedby journals of SCI are necessary before students apply for degree dissertation.PhD degreeapplicantmust be the first author of academic papersand the first author affiliation should be ShanghaiJiao TongUniversity. The impact factor should be more than 3for a single paper ormore than 4 forthe cumulative amount of papers.
