Biography
Currently serving as a tenured professor at the School of International and Public Affairs, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Nankai University and earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from Seoul National University. He has engaged in teaching and research at Nankai University, Renmin University of China, Shenzhen University, and the University of Nottingham. His research primarily focuses on political communication, political psychology, public diplomacy, as well as grassroots democracy and governance in China. Currently, he is concentrating on interdisciplinary research spanning political science, international relations, psychology, and communication. Since 2012, Professor Ma has annually conducted the "Chinese Netizens’ Social Consciousness" series of online surveys and made the data freely accessible. The survey data has been widely utilized in research across fields such as political communication, political psychology, and public opinion studies. Data from the Chinese and cross-national netizens surveys conducted since 2013 are available for free download on the "Chinese National Social Survey Data Archive" website (www.cnsda.org) and the WeChat public account "Public Opinion Analysis (舆论分析)."
